Every day is ‘Āshūrā and every land is Karbala…

…if humans are free and allowed to choose their own way using reason and conscience,

Every day is ‘Āshūrā and every land is Karbala…
…if humans are free and allowed to choose their own way using reason and conscience,
…if we make decisions to choose good over evil, or—the most desirable choice—to choose better over good,
…if every day we are brought to contemplate touching scenes of oppression, usurpation, and murder all over the world,
…if in every time and every place there are many people who will not respect the rights of others in society,
…if, from the beginning of this world, Cain and his descendants oppressed and are oppressing Abel and his descendants,
…if Herod gave the order to have John the Baptist beheaded because St. John opposed Herod’s unlawful marriage to his niece, his brother’s daughter, Herodia,
…if the Prophet Zachariah’s body was mutilated because of his son St. John’s position,
…if in most places in the world, from Europe to Asia and especially in Africa, we come into contact with poverty, deprivation, sickness, illiteracy, civil wars, and military interference despite God-given affluence and natural resources such as natural gas, oil, gold, silver and uranium,
So if we rise, if we protest against the oppression and if we resist, the day of our uprising has been inspired by the day of ‘Āshūrā, and the land of our resistance will be a manifestation of Karbala.
Because Imam Ḥusayn was the heir to Abel, John, Zachariah and Jesus and the true teacher of history, who taught humanity the path to righteousness. Imam Ḥusayn, ‘Āshūrā and Karbala are eternal because the humanitarian values and divine moral standards learned from them are everlasting.
